“Boss Lift” for military support

Flying in a KC-135 Stratotanker never gets old. Usually I’m fortunate enough to ride with people who’ve never seen an air refueling. Usually I fly with people who are excited to see our missions being accomplished in the sky. Today was no different.

Well, maybe it was just a little different. Instead of being surrounded by camouflage…as I looked around at the people I was flying with, I noticed everyone was dressed differently – some with ties, some more relaxed with jeans – but all with similar expressions of excitement.

They weren’t the typical sight you’d see on a military aircraft, but each earned the right to ride on one.

It was the ESGR’s annual breakfast with the boss event. It was a chance for traditional guardsmen to nominate their employers to receive recognition for their military support.

The people I flew with were bosses from across the state (even some from surrounding states) who support the military. They don’t question their employees when they need time off for military-related exercises and events. They support their employees and are proud of them for serving our state and nation, one weekend per month, two weeks per year. It’s because of them that we get to do what we do in the Air National Guard.

The people I flew with today are people I respect and look up to.

If you are an employer who supports the military and the Guardsmen who work for you – then today, we salute you.

Thank you – from the bottom of our hearts – thank you!
