Career Spotlight: Metrics Matter

150527-Z-VW421-001 150527-Z-VW421-005Numbers, numbers, numbers – they are everywhere. Some people love them, others dislike them. No matter which side of that statement you fall on, once you read this blog I think you’ll agree they are an extremely important part of our mission here at the 115th!

Tech. Sgt. Amber Hanna, maintenance management analyst, is responsible for compiling all the maintenance data on a daily basis – and after speaking with her, there’s not a person on base I can think of who would be better at analyzing the statistics!

When I initially sat down with Amber to learn a bit more about what her job entails, I was completely unfamiliar with her career field. I would have never in a million years guessed we keep track of so many things on the maintenance and ops sides of the house. She seriously has everything tracked – even down to the ‘nuts and bolts’ that need to be replaced on each jet.

Her claim to fame is called the “Metrics Report.”

All you have to do is flip open the front page and you’ll see that ‘Metrics Matter.’

Once inside, you’ll find bar graphs indicating the number of sorties that have flown and the total hours spent in the air, a debrief on the break rates of aircraft, maintenance down time across various Air Force bases, the list goes on! I mean – those I listed don’t even get you half-way through the report!

Not only will you find the stats, Amber also does a fine job explaining what each graph means for the mission here at the 115th. Her explanations on each page made it easy for me, a public affairs Airman who seldom even sees a chart, to understand!

It’s no wonder the commander relies on Amber’s expertise. Her ability to include all the important data in an easy-to-analyze format is priceless. Absolutely everything Col. Wiegand needs to know about the jets, their current conditions – and the maintenance that goes into ensuring they are mission ready at a moment’s notice, is right there in front of his eyes.

The work this career field does is impressive!
