The roaring sound of freedom… your fingertips.

There you are, sitting at the local coffee shop in Madison, Wisconsin. Out of nowhere comes a raging loud sound. The roar of the engines are so loud, you begin to look to the sky. You aren’t sure what it is, but it keeps getting louder and louder and louder. When you begin to think it sounds so close it may hit you, it appears through the clouds. The sight of freedom, of protection, of just plain beauty is right there in front of you.

If you’re from Madison, you’ve probably seen the F-16 Fighting Falcons in the skies above you a thousand times. If you’re like me, from Green Bay – the only time you’ve ever witnessed the F-16 was during a flyover at Lambeau Field on a day when you were lucky enough to score tickets to the game (and they were lucky enough to be chosen to fly over the stadium filled with Packer fans)!

Those of you who are reading this from afar and have never had a chance to witness or hear that roaring sound of freedom, this blog is for you. I plan to follow our Airmen around – on their deployments, in their shops on a regular basis, during special training missions, etc. I’m going to call it 52 Weeks at Truax.

For the next 52 weeks, I invite you to join me on the adventures of the 115th Fighter Wing. Who knows, the Airman who teaches me a little about his or her profession could be your son or daughter, your spouse, your cousin, or a family friend. If there’s ever a topic you’d like more clarification on, or an Air Force Specialty Code (aka Air Force job) you’d like to learn more about – just comment below and I’ll be sure to cover it to the best of my ability!

Keep in mind this is all my personal perspective, and it is not the official opinion of the Air Force or the Air National Guard. I plan to be real with you. I plan to learn with you. I plan to provide you with eyes inside the base – I’ll travel with the Airmen (even to the flightline on cold Wisconsin days) as you sit on your couch wrapped up in a warm blanket reading the words I write.

So, let our journey begin! You’ve just read post 1/52…our journey will continue next Tuesday. Prepare to learn about our Airmen who are deploying this week. I’m going to write all about the extensive process they go through to get from Madison, Wisconsin to Okinawa, Japan.

Until then, thanks for joining me this fine Tuesday at Truax!

Very Respectfully,

SrA Andrea F. Rhode
